Background
De Smet Technologies & Services N.V. is a company of De Smet Ballestra, supplying equipment and services to the oils and fats industry: pressing, extraction, and refining. In Equador De Smet has built a Solutherm Ice condensing Installation for refining edible (comsumption) oil. Important steps in this refining process are the forming and the condensation of ice. The refrigeration capacity in this process is supplied by equipment of GEA Grasso International BV.
Short description of the solution
Refrigeration equipment consisting of a GEA Grasso DUO Pack Screw Compressor Package is supplying the required refrigeration capacity.
The compressors are working in a direct NH3 pump system connected to the Solutherm Sublimator. The liquefied NH3 in the separator system has a temperature of -31°C. The NH3 discharged from the compressors are condensed in a Plate Heat Exchanger working as a condenser, fed with water from a cooling tower. The system fully complies to the local requirements and the demands of the client. The new equipment is incorporated and interlinked in an existing refinery plant.
